I was listening to a sermon the other day and the pastor said something that stopped me in my tracks. He mentioned that so often we are skeptical to share our testimonies with others because we feel our testimony isn't as important as everyone else's. Honestly, that hit me hard. I've always been surrounded by believers, grew up in a Christian home and became a believer at a very young age.
I remember growing up listening to the testimonies of people around me and thinking, wow my testimony is nothing like this. Its boring and nothing special. What a lie! Your testimony is unique and beautiful, it doesn't matter if you have been a Christian since you were young and never had to walk through certain situations or if your testimony includes your life being turned completely around by the grace and mercy of our God. Both of these testimonies are powerful and so beautiful.
I love what John 15 tells us,
"And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning." - John 15:27
Then in 1st John 5 we are told,
"Whoever believes in the Son of God has the testimony in himself. Whoever does not believe God has made him a liar, because he has not believed in the testimony that God has borne concerning his Son." - 1 John 5:10
Your testimony is your story, the story of what God has brought you through and for some of us, it's the story of what God has kept you from. I would argue that the testimony of someone who has been a Christian most of their life and hasn't had one of those life altering experiences is just as beautiful as the person next to you who has walked through some of the darkest valleys you could imagine.
We are all the children of God and called by His name, to proclaim the gospel message to everyone everywhere. I have met people with some of the most beautiful and powerful testimonies I have ever heard, I remember one conversation very vividly. I had just heard their testimony and I found myself in awe of who our God is. We talked for a while and she asked me if I would share my testimony with her, I was a little hesitant, but eventually I did. I remember at the end of it saying "my testimony isn't a crazy beautiful story like a lot of others, but that's what it is". I'll never forget the look on her face as I said those words. With tears in her eyes she gave me a hug and said, "that is the most beautiful testimony I have heard, never discredit the worth of your testimony no matter what it looks like".
"Then my tongue shall tell of your righteousness and of your praise all the day long." - Psalm 35:28
Never discredit the power of your testimony friends. It doesn't matter what it looks like, it is beautiful and God can and wants to use it to further His kingdom. The scripture above , I think speaks to this thought. I will tell of your righteousness and praise you all day long. I have seen the goodness and mercy of God over and over again in my life and the lives of those around me.
You may think your testimony is boring or not as important as the next person or the individual that has craziest testimony you have ever heard, but that couldn't be further from the truth. To that individual you have such a beautiful testimony and to God you are called chosen, worthy, and loved. I love what Psalm 40 tells us,
"I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation; behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O Lord. I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation." -Psalm 40:9-10
Whatever your testimony is friends it is important and beautiful. I hope you remember that the next time you find yourself hesitant to share it with others.
Remember you are enough because He is enough and Christ is all you need, I've mentioned this before and I want to make sure you understand what I mean. I'm not saying you are enough in yourself, cause you're not and you never will be, but when Christ is working in and through you, that is when you find your worth. You are enough in and through Him.
Much Love friends,
Alianna
