I want to take some time today to talk about the power of words. We've all heard the saying "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me", that statement couldn't be further from the truth. In fact, scripture tells us, "The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences" (Proverbs 18:21). Our words have the power to build others up, but they also have the power to tear others down. Scripture also tells us, "In the same way, the tongue is a small thing that makes grand speeches. But a tiny spark can set a great forest on fire" (James 3:5).
Over the years I have had so many instances when the words others have said to me or about me have broken me down and left me feeling broken and distraught. I remember one time telling my dad about something a "friend" had said to me, I was heartbroken that they could speak such ugly words over another person. It really got me thinking about how we are so quick to destroy others confidence and tear them down. When instead we should be speaking life and joy over everyone we meet.
The words we speak should bring joy and life into those we interact with. With one simple word we can either light up a room and brighten others lives or we can like the verse above says, start a fire that will engulf everything in sight. So I want to challenge you, next time you are speaking with others ask yourself, "are my words building them up or am I tearing them down?" If you find its the later of the two its time to make a change. My prayer for all of you is that you will be life speakers and joy bringers! I pray that as you go throughout you day others will see the joy and light you have and be encouraged by it.
So remember your words hold power and can either make someone's day or break them down. Be the person who builds others up and shows them the love and joy knowing our Savior brings.
Be the one who speaks Life!

As always remember you have a God-given uniqueness!
Shalom ~ Alianna
