Memories within a Picture

I was recently looking through old photos on my camera roll and found my mind being flooded by memories I had forgotten about. There's an old saying, a picture is worth a thousand words. I realized the truth of that statement as I looked through those pictures the other day. Life has been crazy for most of us over the last few years in more ways then we can count. Our daily lives have been flipped upside down, but you know what? Life still goes on!

One picture in particular that I saw was taken three years ago when I was in Japan. The picture was taken of me by one of my friends in a moment I was overcome with many emotions, it was during one of the hardest seasons of my life, but from it came one of my favorite memories. The photo shows a girl smiling looking out over miles of rice fields as the sun began to set. I had pushed the memory of that day from my mind at some point over the years remembering other events from that trip in its place.

That day in particular had been draining and emotionally I was in a low place, but instead of allowing myself to wallow in self pity I jumped at the chance to explore with my friend. She had asked me to come take some photos of her, and I thought I might as well. Right before we headed back I paused to take in the view, I was amazed as I looked out over the rice fields and at the sunset as it turned the sky into a vibrant work of art. In that moment unknown to me she snapped a photo that remains to this day one of my favorites.

I think life can be a lot like that photo, unexpected and sweet. Even when life seems to be going wrong there is always something within the chaos that is breathtaking. Beauty can and often is found within the chaos. I want to remind you that God can bring beauty even from the ashes. It doesn't matter what lies in your past, you are made new in Christ and loved. One thing I have learned over the last few years is that no matter what I'm walking through, God is always right there with me and I know He is right there with you too.

Today's beautiful moments are tomorrow's treasured memories...

That picture reminded me of a moment I saw beauty within the chaos, joy within the storm I was facing. Even in the moments we feel the most alone, we never really are. To say a picture is worth a thousand words is true, however, its the memories attached that last a lifetime. I know it doesn't always fell like it, but remember seasons come and go and through it all life goes on. We adapt and change along with the seasons around us. The memories we make along the way just may be some of the best moments of our lives.

Memories are the key not to the past, but to the future... - Corrie Ten Boom

Hold on to your memories and remember the story behind that smile, the tears, each sigh, and every laugh. The memories are a part of you, there messy, yet so beautiful! No matter what you do please remember you have a God-given uniqueness!
